City Health strengthens preventative mental health measures

08 October 2025

Over the past year, a mental health screening tool has been successfully implemented at 13 Community Day Centres (CDCs), with plans under way to expand to all City clinics, reaching every resident who visits our facilities. Read more below:

'City Health is placing mental health firmly at the heart of its strategic priorities, ensuring that preventative care, early detection, and community support are central to its services,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham.

There has been a marked increase in the number of client engagements in the past year, as services expanded from three subdistricts to all eight City Health subdistricts.

Aligned with the 2025 World Mental Health Day theme: 'Mental health in humanitarian emergencies', City Health is committed to building resilient communities by addressing mental well-being before crises occur.

Residents are encouraged to look after their mental health, seek support when needed, and engage in conversations that break discrimination and stigma.

City Health psychologists are leading innovative awareness initiatives at community level, making mental health information accessible, culturally sensitive, and easy to understand – in all three official languages.

'Preventing mental health challenges before they escalate is just as important as treating physical illnesses. We are committed to equipping our communities with the tools, support, and understanding they need to thrive,' added Councillor Higham.

City Health invites residents to take care of their mental health, to reach out for support and care when struggling, and to participate in community programmes designed to strengthen mental well-being across the city.
